Casa Camino
Casa Camino, in Scotland, is home to a small Augustinian community of women founded in 1997 to ‘share food for the journey’ with other pilgrim people united by a common search for something ‘more’ in life, sometimes expressed as a search for meaning or a search for God.
Why Casa Camino? Names are important. They can act as signposts to who we are, what we value. But, choosing a name is always a challenge! We agonised for weeks and tested out ideas before the name ‘popped up’ seemingly out of nowhere. And it stayed with us, began to live in us: a balance between living in a particular place, putting down some roots, yet not being stationary, static, gathering dust.
In recent years, the word ‘camino’ has become associated with one particular journey – the Camino de Santiago, to Compostella, in Spain. This ancient pilgrim route has become increasingly popular. However, for some people it may be out of reach or physically too taxing. But, there are other ways to gain insight into the pilgrim experience; other places from which to go ‘on pilgrimage.’ There are also companions willing to journey with you, offering encouragement and guidance on the way.
