A Word About Retreats

Who are retreats for?

Are you constantly giving but running on ‘empty’ yourself?  Are you an achiever, in demand, yet somehow unfulfilled?   Do you encourage others to go on retreat, but don’t think you deserve ‘time out’ for yourself?  Or, do you simply long for some quiet time to connect, or reconnect, with God?  If so, a retreat is for you!  It is not a ‘luxury’ but an essential ingredient in living a healthy human, spiritual life.  You cannot give to others what you do not feed in yourself.

I would like to go on retreat – but what can I expect?

Everyone’s search for God is unique; every retreat is also unique.  So, be prepared for the God of Surprises. But, what if you feel God has withdrawn from you? Or, perhaps you feel you have lost touch with God, or feel ‘stuck’ with your way of praying?  A retreat can help renew your relationship or feed your longing for the ‘more’ in life.  You may be looking for help to make a decision, or to reflect on a choice already made; if so, setting time aside to be in the Divine Presence, risking a conversation with the as yet Unknown, can help you frame the questions that will move you forward or encourage you on the path you have chosen.

What can I do to prepare for a retreat?

Come with an attitude of openness!  A retreat is a journey, and a mind and heart open to be drawn by the Spirit would be an advantage; as would a willingness to protect the time you have made available for your retreat.  (We recommend leaving your mobile phone at home but do ensure you are contactable in an emergency).  Above all, bring yourself, as you are; leave the rest to God.

And, for our part?

We want you to be as relaxed and as comfortable as you can be.  So, please let us know how we can help you make the most of your time, especially if this is your first experience of being on retreat.  We are always happy to discuss any special requirements you may have before you book your retreat.  But we do ask all who come to bear in mind that we are a small community, not a business.  We do not make big claims of being able to answer every need.  We invite you into our home, joyfully sharing what we have in the hope that your stay with us will be both restful and life-giving!

Accommodation?

We can offer guests and friends peaceful and spacious accommodation.  Bedrooms are generously proportioned and simply but attractively furnished.  The bright sitting room has the added attraction of a log-burning stove – much appreciated by all!  And, a great blessing, the house has its own Oratory, a quiet and sacred space for prayer and meditation.

Built in 2005, Casa Camino is a large bungalow, nestling under Benarty Hill, a lovely natural feature offering wonderful views over Loch Leven and the hills beyond.  And, there are many places of local interest and beauty within walking and cycling distance, or further afield, by car.
